Match 51 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai for the clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians.

The Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans are coming into this game off the back of a defeat against the Punjab Kings that they would want to get over immediately, while the Mumbai Indians are heading into the match off the back of a close victory over the Rajasthan Royals.

The Gujarat Titans currently lie first on the table having played ten games with eight wins and two defeats. They displayed a poor batting performance to post a low score of 143/8 in their last game, which was chased down by the Punjab Kings in just 16 overs. There was a positive, however, in the form of Sai Sudharsan, who was the star of the game as he scored 65 runs out of the 143 put up by the team and helped them post a decent total to defend.

The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, lie tenth on the table with one win and eight defeats from their nine games. They will be looking back on their previous game with fondness as the squad as a whole performed brilliantly. Their bowling line-up managed to restrict the dangerous batting line-up of the Rajasthan Royals to a relatively low score of 158/6. Hrithik Shokeen showed his trickery and talent with the ball. Though Suryakumar Yadav was once again the star with the bat for the Mumbai Indians, scoring 51 runs, it was a combined effort of the batting department that helped Mumbai get their first win of the tournament against a difficult opposition.

Pitch Report

The Brabourne Stadium has proved to assist both the bowlers and the batters in this year’s campaign. The Brabourne pitch has been well rested, and the captains at the toss will be hoping to win it and chase, as the dew might play a major role in the later stages of the game, making it difficult for the bowlers to get grip on the ball.

Head-to-Head

Matches played: 0 | This the first encounter between these two teams

Batter to watch out for: Suryakumar Yadav

With a handy half century, scoring 52 off just 39 balls, Suryakumar Yadav will be coming into this game with a nothing-to-lose attitude. He will not only be trying to score big for himself and to hopefully cement his spot in the middle order of the Indian national team for the upcoming T20I World Cup, but he will also want to take the team to a big total. Though the MI’s elimination is all but confirmed, they would want to show their champion blood and show some fighting spirit and the end the tournament on a good note, and Suryakumar will try his best in helping his team to do so.

Bowler to watch out for: Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has turned out to be the best pick for the Gujarat franchise in the auction. With his blistering performances, Shami has managed to pick 15 wickets in the tournament so far. In his previous match against the Punjab Kings, though Gujarat ended up on the losing side, Shami managed to pick up a wicket in his four overs. He is my bowler to watch out for in this game.

Fantasy XI

Wriddhiman Saha (vc), Shubham Gill, Ishan Kishan, Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Lockie Fergusson, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami

Match Prediction

Given the form the Gujarat Titans are in and the brilliant all-round performances and the fresh energy that they have managed to bring into this edition of the tournament, I predict a win for Hardik Pandya and Co.
