Preview

Match 48 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Mumbai for the clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Punjab Kings.

The Gujarat Titans lie top of the table with eight wins and just one defeat from their nine games. A Playoff place is within sight for the Titans and they are also looking good for a top-two finish, which will ease their chances of making it to the final. Hardik Pandya has enjoyed a splendid start to his captaincy career.

Who would have predicted the Titans to be in such form and position in the table before the start of the season? They have outplayed all the odds stacked against them. They are currently on a five-game unbeaten run, having defeated the Royal Chellengers Bangalore by six wickets in their previous encounter. They will be looking to win their sixth game on the run when they face off against the Punjab Kings.

On the other hand, the Punjab Kings lie seventh in the table with four wins and five defeats from their nine games. Form has been the concern for the Kings as they have failed to win two games back-to-back this season and will be looking to avoid any more errors in order to move in the top half of the table and fancy their chances of making it to the Playoffs. They are coming into this game off the back of a 20-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants. Mayank Agarwal and Co will be looking for nothing less than two points against the Gujarat Titans, but they will be knowing for sure that it will not be an easy task as they are up against one of the best teams of this season.

Pitch Report

The previous two matches played at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium have witnessed scores of less than 165 in each of the four innings played, even though the stadium offers support to the batters with its short boundaries and quick outfield. Both the teams possess formidable bowling lineups, hence, I expect the captain winning the toss to bowl first and restrict the opposition to a reasonable total.

Head-to-Head

Matches Played: 1 | Gujarat Titans: 1 | Punjab Kings: 0

Batter to watch out forJonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow was among the run scorers at last since his return to the IPL this campaign in his previous encounter against the LSG. He was his team’s top batter, having scored 32 runs off 28 balls. It was not enough, however, and the Punjab Kings ended up losing the match by 20 runs.

Bairstow has managed to score just 79 runs in his six games so far this season, with 32 being his highest score. He will be looking to pick up form and guide his team to a formidable total at a crucial point of the season. Be sure to have him in your fantasy team.

Bowler to watch out for Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has witnessed a rather quiet season this year. He has picked up just nine wickets so far. However, he has been consistent for the Titans in getting the crucial breakthroughs, and one cannot doubt his bowling traits.

Rashid will be looking to pick up wickets, and with the pitch at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium tending to slow down towards the latter half of the season, he will undoubtedly be fancying his chances, making him my bowler to watch out.

GT vs PBKSFantasy XI

Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, David Miller, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone (vc), Hardik Pandya (c), Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Mohammed Shami

GT vs PBKS – Match Prediction

The Gujarat Titans seem almost invincible going by the way things are being played currently. The Punjab Kings, on the other hand, are hungry for victory and cannot afford anything less than two points in the upcoming games to keep their hopes of making it to the Playoffs alive. However, batting and consistency have been serious problems for the Kings this season and, unless they find a way out, I predict the Gujarat Titans to emerge victorious in this game.
