ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: Day 8 Review

Day 8 of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup had three games in store for us as the West Indies played Uganda, India and Pakistan faced off in New York, while Oman had to overcome Scotland.

Men’s T20 WC 2024: West Indies v Uganda

The home team managed to secure one of the most straightforward wins of the tournament so far. Their 134-run triumph came after they scored 173, Johnson Charles making 44 off 42 at the top, and the innings was finished off by Andre Russell with a quick-fire 30 off 17.

The task proved to be a bit too much for Uganda, who were bowled out for 39. Akeal Hosein was the star with the bowl as he picked up five wickets while conceding just 11 runs in his four overs.

First innings: West Indies 173/5 in 20 overs

Second innings: Uganda 39 in 12 overs

Men’s T20 WC 2024: India v Pakistan

The highly-awaited India v Pakistan clash in New York did not disappoint. Although we knew this game would be a low-scoring affair, India’s first-innings score of 119 was still a bit surprising. Axar Patel looked the best of all Indian batters despite making just 20 off 18. Rishabh Pant was impressive as well as his 42 off 31 gave his side something to defend. Naseem Shah was the pitch of the Pak bowlers as he snapped up three wickets for 21 runs in his four overs.

After Pakistan were off to a steady start, losing just one wicket in the powerplay, the Indians came storming back. Jasprit Bumrah (3/14), Hardik Pandya (2/24), and Patel (1/11) put the squeeze on the Pakistani middle order to provide India with a memorable six-run victory in this encounter.

Should Ireland succumb to the US later in the group stage, Pakistan will be eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the very first round.

First innings: India 119 in 19 overs

Second innings: Pakistan 113/7 in 20 overs

Men’s T20 WC 2024: Oman v Scotland

Scotland continued their brilliant form in this tournament to register their second victory and go top of Group B. Oman managed to put up 150 in their 20 overs, with Pratik Athavale scoring 54 off 40 at the top of the order. Ayaan Khan also played a crucial knock of 41 to post a competitive total.

However, the Scottish batters found things too easy as George Munsey smashed 41 off 20, while Brandon McMullen scored 61 off 31 to give their team a seven-wicket victory in the 14th over.

First innings: Oman 150/7 in 20 overs

Second innings: Scotland 153/3 in 13.1 overs
