Match 49 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune for the clash between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings. While the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers are coming into this game off the back of a hard-fought performance which resulted in a defeat, the Super Kings are heading into the match off the back of a close victory over the SunRisers Hyderabad, motivated highly by the batting performances of their opening duo Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway.
The RCB currently lie fifth in the table having played ten games with five wins and five defeats. Though they performed well and managed to post a good score of 170/6 against the Gujarat Titans in their previous game, the match resulted in a defeat for them as the Titans and the backbone of their squad, Rahul Tewatia, managed to chase down the score. Although, one positive the RCB could take away from that match was the return to form of Virat Kohli, who scored a much-needed 58 off 53 balls for the team. Bangalore will be hoping for him to build on his regained form.
The Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, lie ninth in the table with three wins and six defeats from their nine games. They will be looking back on their previous game with fondness, as their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway returned to form and helped the team post a score of 202. Gaikwad showed his class by scoring 99 runs off 57 balls, falling agonisingly short of a century. On the other end of the pitch, Conway played an important role by scoring 85 off 55 balls as the two put together 182 runs. Chennai will be hoping for their openers to build on this form and continue providing similar starts.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune has proved to assist both the bowlers and the batters in this year’s campaign. This match at the MCA is being held after a very short break after the previous game. The CSK played against the SRH in the previous game here and, while batting first, managed to put up a big score. Both the teams will be hoping to win the toss and bat first.

Batter to watch out for: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Previous season’s Orange Cap holder Ruturaj Gaikwad had not been able to make his mark this season until the previous game, when he managed to score 99 runs against the SRH, showing his class and proving a point to the viewers, the CSK fans and the management. With him giving a blistering performance for the team and leading them to victory, both he and the franchise will be looking forward to more such performances.
Bowler to watch out for: Mukesh Choudhary
Mukesh Choudhary is an emerging player and is proving to be a trump card for Chennai. He is coming into this game off the back of a strong bowling performance of 46/4 in his last game. He will try to gain confidence from this performance and have another great showing against the struggling batting line-up of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c), Dinesh Karthik (vc), Mukesh Choudhary, Dwaine Pretorious, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mohammed Siraj
It is a tough call to make as to who will emerge victorious in this fixture, as both the teams have struggled to make a mark in this tournament and have not been able to put up consistent performances. However, with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway returning back to form, and the CSK bowling lineup looking a bit more stable than that of the RCB, I’m backing the Super Kings to win this fixture.
