About

Having started playing tennis at the age of four, Auger-Aliassime won the Open Super Auray competition in 2012. The young Canadian followed it up with his first ITF junior title at the Querétaro Junior Cup in 2015. Auger-Aliassime continued his good form by winning his second title at the Jalisco Junior Cup in Zapopan, Mexico.

Auger-Aliassime went on to win his first junior Grand Slam at the 2015 US Open, winning the doubles title with his compatriot Denis Shapovalov. The following year at the same event, he went on to win the junior singles trophy as well.

The Canadian turned professional in 2017 and won the ITF Futures title in Sherbrooke, Canada. He then went on to win his maiden ATP Challenger, winning the Open de Lyon and backed it up with another Challenger trophy that year at the Copa Sevilla. His double-Challenger-winning debut campaign saw him become the youngest player to break into the top 200 since Rafael Nadal, who had done it way back in 2002.

Auger-Aliassime successfully defended his Open de Lyon title the following year and made his senior Grand Slam debut at the 2018 US Open. He struggled the following year to get any silverware and even though he reached three ATP finals, he couldn’t go the full distance.

A rescheduled 2020 season saw Auger-Aliassime take his first senior doubles title home as he won the Paris Masters with Hubert Hurkacz. At the Halle Open in 2021, he showcased his talent and caused a major shock with he beat Roger Federer in the second round. He continued his good form to make it to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal during the 2021 Wimbledon.

Playing Style

An all-court player, Auger-Aliassime excels on hard surfaces and is known to prefer clay. The Canadian has a strong forehand and uses the forehand as a winner.

Auger-Aliassime is also known for his pace and often switches from a defensive to offensive position very quickly, catching his opponents off guard. One of the key components of his game is his wrists. The Canadian generates enough power through his wrists and his flexible wrists also help him generate multiple advantageous angles.

Auger-Aliassime also uses his height to his advantage, especially during services, going powerful during their first serves.
