WNBA MVP and Olympian Breanna ‘Stewie‘ Stewart has announced the launch of Stewie 1, the first women’s signature basketball sneaker in over a decade. Stewart has teamed up with Puma to create the Stewie 1.

The Stewie 1 captures Stewart’s fierce spirit along with its “Quiet Fireway” colour scheme: a combination of neon yellow and contrasting black. The Stewie 1 also has an aggressive flame that morphs into the calming ripples of water, showcasing the duality of Stewart’s game and personality. The sneaker also gives a nod to Stewart’s upstate New York high school team with a north star design. Stewart also showcases her loyalty to the Seattle Storm with lightning bolts in the design. The “positionless” shoe, as it is referred to, aims to be versatile so that both frontcourt and backcourt players can use it. The round it out, the sneakers are marked with scar marks which are a nod to the dual Achilles injuries suffered by Stewart and the incredible comeback she made post her injuries.

Speaking about the Stewie 1, Stewart said:

I think having my own signature shoe is obviously a dream come true. When I was little, it’s like you’re playing basketball and you’re looking up to all these amazing role models. Now being able to put that in reverse and be that role model and hopefully have a lot of young kids be wearing the Stewie 1s and seeing what I’m doing on the court and then trying to emulate that in the shoe is something that’s really inspirational to me.

It’s who I am as a person and as a player. The ability to make noise without saying much. I hope that it sparks more signature shoes to happen in the women’s basketball world. I hope that it helps bring women’s basketball to another level, to another light, to continue to get recognition. And know that, yeah, I’m the first women’s basketball [signature] shoe in over a decade, but there should be a lot more coming.

I’m excited to celebrate this with the ones who have helped me along the way, excited to share this with everybody in the basketball space. I have a way to really connect with the younger generation and really be a role model and someone that you see on the court, but you can also see in the stores. Some kids can wear Stewie 1s and then wanna play like me.

Puma announced the upcoming release ahead of the WNBA All-Star weekend, during which Stewart will debut the Stewie 1 for the first time.

The Stewie 1 collection will be available at public stores and online this autumn. Along with the sneaker collection, a special apparel collection will also be launched, which will have shorts, graphic tees, leggings and more.
