In this article, we present to you our pick of the top 5 international players who we believe can make a difference for their respective teams in the 2025 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
The WPL has rapidly gained recognition since its inception in 2023, drawing international talent to the Subcontinent. World-class players such as Meg Lanning, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Elise Perry, and Sophie Ecclestone have graced the league, making a significant impact alongside their Indian peers. Their presence has not only elevated the level of competition, it has also led some of them to lead their side to the WPL trophy.
Deandra Dottin | Gujarat Giants
The legendary Barbadian all-rounder and former West Indies captain needs little introduction. The 33-year-old is a powerful hitter, an agile fielder, and an effective bowling option. She helped the Windies to a semi-final in the T20 World Cup last year, where she scored 120 runs in six innings with an average of 40.33 and a strike rate of 162.16, while also picking up five wickets at an economy rate of 5.4.
Dottin plays in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) for the Trinbago Knight Riders and recently won the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with the Melbourne Renegades. She had been part of the Gujarat Giants setup for the inaugural WPL season but was controversially released by the franchise before the start of the season. The Giants have made amends by bringing her back for a whopping INR 1.7 crore.
Dottin could prove to be an astute signing for the Giants, who need a powerful hitter in their middle order, someone who can come in and impact games.
Sarah Bryce | Delhi Capitals
The wicketkeeper-batter joined the Scotland national team setup at the age of 18; roughly seven years later, she is one of the team’s mainstays and an accomplished keeper. Bryce has scored 1,290 runs in 58 games for Scotland with an average of 28.7 and a strike rate of 106.5. She has also taken 29 catches and made four run-outs and 33 stumpings in T20Is.
Bryce currently plays for the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL and Welsh Fire in The Hundred. She was roped in by the Delhi Capitals for her base price of INR 10 lakh, which could prove to be a bargain given her capability to score crucial runs. The Capitals were also in need of a good keeper.
