After putting in an impressive one-stop drive at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix to take his second win of the season, George Russell’s celebrations have been cut short, with the young British driver disqualified from the Belgian GP for driving an underweight car.

With Russell disqualified, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, having finished P2, has inherited the win, with those behind him also moving up a spot.

Russell’s car weight was 796.5 kg, 1.5 kg under the minimum weight requirement (798 kg). According to the Technical Delegate’s Report, the car was initially within the weight limit, but after 2.8 litres of fuel was removed, the car failed to meet the weight requirement.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Principal, has come out and stated that the team accept the decision and will not appeal against it.

The final classification of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix is as follows:

1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Oscar Piastri
