International Tennis Federation (ITF) inks Iberdrola deal

Staff Staff

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has roped in Spanish energy firm Iberdrola as the Official Energy Partner of the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge — the women’s World Cup of Tennis.

Iberdrola has revealed that the partnership is part of its vision of promoting gender equality in sports. Up until recently, it also served as the title sponsor of the Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino or “Liga F” — Spain’s women’s professional club football topflight.

The Billie Jean King Cup got underway on November 7, 2023, with reigning champions Switzerland battling it out to defend their title against the likes of Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Australia among others.

David Haggerty, President, International Tennis Federation, said:

We are pleased to welcome Iberdrola as the Official Energy Partner of the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge. We have been impressed with Iberdrola’s commitment to supporting women and girls in sport, something that the ITF also seeks to do through our Advantage All programme. We are grateful to Iberdrola for their investment in our competition, which will enable us to continue to raise the profile of the Billie Jean King Cup around the world.

Laura Gil, Sports Sponsorship Manager, Iberdrola, added:

At Iberdrola we are already proud sponsors of the Spanish women’s national tennis team, and are adding to this the sponsorship of the Billie Jean King Finals. The Finals of the women’s World Cup of Tennis are set to be an incredible spectacle at Seville’s Estadio de La Cartuja and we wish all the best to all teams, especially to Paula Badosa and team Spain. We have been committed to supporting women in sport since 2016, a journey we continue to build on.”
