In the first round of Invitational Qualifiers for the second season of the ESports Premier League (ESPL), Team Revenge Esports won, while True Rippers and Entity finished second and third, respectively, to secure their spots in the ESPL LAN Finals.
Additionally, Team Reckoning and Walkouts ended fourth and fifth respectively to guarantee their spots in the ESPL LAN Finals.
From July 9 to July 17, the best 16 teams in India competed in a first invitational round in which each team played a total of 20 matches. The round featured a number of thrilling meetings among these top teams. To narrow down the top 16 teams, the league was played in two distinct phases in the first phase: online qualifications and invite qualifiers. Two underdog teams, GOG Esports, and Dragon Esports, advanced to the LAN finals via the online qualifiers, marking their first appearances in a significant competition.
Since July 18, the second round of invitational qualifiers has been taking place and will conclude on July 27. This round of invitational qualifiers will determine the final eight teams that advance to the Finals.
Tiger Shroff, well-known Bollywood actor and youth icon, has been the face of India’s first-ever franchise-based esports league for the second year in a row. International smartphone company TECNO Mobile has also joined India Today Gaming.
Vishwalok Nath, Director of ESPL, said after the Invitational 1 results:
“After the Open Qualifiers, we were happy to see the top teams fight so fiercely in the first round of Invitational Qualifiers. These teams raised the level of competition as most of them have been successful in the past in various other tournaments. This attracts a lot of viewers eager to see their favourite teams and players in action. I wish all of these 5 teams the very best and will be looking forward to seeing them play against the other qualified teams in the LAN Finals.“
