Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has been announced as a brand ambassador for the state of West Bengal. The announcement was made by the state’s Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, at the Bengal Global Business Summit’s seventh edition.
Ganguly becomes the third brand ambassador of the state, with the position having been previously filled by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Tollywood actor Dev (Deepak Adhikari).
Mamata Banerjee commented:
“You know that Sourav Ganguly is a very popular figure and he can work for the new generation in an appropriate manner. I want to involve him as Bengal’s brand ambassador. Don’t say no. Say yes and embrace positivity. Let’s script our destiny with our willpower.“
Ganguly spoke about his relationship with Banerjee, stating:
“We know the kind of pressure she handles and how busy she remains with the kind of responsibility she shoulders. Yet when I send an SMS to her, I get a reply in one minute. Very rarely will there be a delay. I am so touched by the care and affection I get from her. Every time she sees me on TV she inquires if I am eating properly. I am touched by the small things she notices in people.”
This isn’t the first time Ganguly has been given the role of a brand ambassador by an Indian state. Earlier this year, he was announced as a brand ambassador of Tripura by the state’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha.
