The World Chess Championship, administered by The International Chess Federation (FIDE), is played to determine the world champion in chess. The current world chess champion is Norway’s, Magnus Carlsen. He defeated India’s Viswanathan Anand in 2013. Carlsen defended the title in 2014, 2016, and 2018. The next world championship match that was to be held in 2020 has been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
