Mumbai Indians won their last encounter against the UP Warriorz. Batting first, UP Warriorz managed a total of 150/9 with a half-century from Georgia Voll but star of the show was Mumbai Indians’ Amelia Kerr who ended up with figures of 5/38. In response, MI comfortably chased the total down with Hayley Matthews top-scoring with 68(46) and Nat-Sciver Brunt with a quickfire 37(23) in 18.3 overs. This win gave MI a lot of confidence as they were struggling with the bat in the last few matches before this.
As for Gujarat Giants, they played their part in a thrilling chase against Delhi Capitals. Batting first DC got a par score of 177/5 with the Delhi Openers Meg Lanning 92(57) and Shafali Verma 40(27) propelling the Capitals to a decent total. Gujarat Giants bowler Meghna Singh took three wickets restricting DC to a chaseable total.
In response, Gujarat Giants top order batter Harleen Deol 70*(49) steered her side to a win with support from Beth Mooney 44(35) and hard-hitting Deandra Dottin 24(10). It was a match that anyone could have won but it was Dottin’s late surge alongside Deol that took the Giants to a win.
Both the teams are coming off wins in their previous encounters with GG placed in second spot on the table and MI looking to climb up. Considering MI have a better and more balanced lineup as compared to the Giants, Mumbai Indians have a slight edge.
