Women’s Premier League 2026 | Match 14: Gujarat Giants vs UP Warriorz| 19:30 IST, 22 January 2026

The Gujarat Giants will face-off with the UP Warriorz in this Women’s Premier League fixture. The two teams have already met once this season with GG winning the tie in a highly entertaining high chase thriller that GG won by 10 runs.

The Gujarat Giants’ last game was against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the same ground with GG winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. RCB lost few early wickets but captain Smriti Mandhana (26 runs off 23 balls) along with Gautami Naik (73 runs off 55 balls) stitched a vital partnership and then Richa Ghosh (27 runs off 20 balls) and Radha Yadav (17 runs off 8 balls) propelled RCB to a highly competitive 178/6. For the Giants, Renuka Singh (1/23) and Sophie Devine (1/25) were economical but Kashvee Gautam and Ashleigh Gardner conceded one too many and couldn’t restrict RCB to a relatively small total.

In response, GG could never get going as Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare bowled impressively in the powerplay. Both openers Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine were dismissed cheaply and only Anushka Sharma (18 runs off 20 balls) and captain Ashleigh Gardner (54 runs off 43 balls) provided some resistance to the superb RCB bowlers. The lower order couldn’t contribute either and GG ended up losing the match by 61 runs. Sayali Satghare (3/21) and Nadine de Klerk (2/17) were the top performers with the ball for RCB. This was the Giants’ third consecutive defeat after winning their first two games of the season.

As for the UP Warriorz, their season has been a complete contrast to the Giants. They lost their first three games but have caught momentum now with back-to-back wins, both coming against a strong Mumbai Indians side. In their last game against MI, UP Warriorz batted first and posted a competitive 187/8. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with 70 runs of 45 balls and was ably supported by compatriot Phoebe Litchfield (61 off 37 balls) and Harleen Deol (25 runs off 16 balls). Amelia Kerr (3/28) and Nat-Sciver Brunt (2/22) were the pick of the MI bowling attack.

In response, MI lost early wickets of Haley Matthews, Nat-Sciver Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur making the chase difficult for them. Though Amelia Kerr (49 not out off 28 balls) and Amanjot Kaur (41 runs off 24 balls) reignited the chase but in the end the target proved too much for them as the required run-rate kept rising. MI ended up losing the game by 22 runs.

While the UP Warriorz have gained momentum, the Gujarat Giants seem to be losing their way. With the GG batters not being able to provide the kind of start required, the Giants are exposing their middle order batters too early and creating a lot of pressure on Ashleigh Gardner who has been seen waging a lone battle far too often. As for UPW, their captain getting back in form has been great news for them and with their batting and bowling both clicking, UP Warriorz are the favourites to win this match as well.

Fantasy XI: Meg Lanning (c), Beth Mooney (wk), Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner, Deepti Sharma, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Ecclestone, Renuka Singh, Kranti Gaud.

Venue: Vadodara International Cricket Stadium, Kotambi, Gujarat

Winner’s Prediction: UP Warriorz
