WPL 2026 | Eliminator: Gujarat Giants vs Delhi Capitals | Preview and Prediction
The Gujarat Giants and the Delhi Capitals are set to do battle in the Eliminator to earn the right to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final of the 2026 Women’s Premier League season.
Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.
Women’s Premier League 2026 | Eliminator: GG vs DC | 19:30 IST, February 2, 2026
The Giants sealed their Eliminator spot courtesy of a rather tense and nervy win over defending champions Mumbai Indians, where it was a case of them holding their nerve in crunch situations just a bit better than their opponents.
The Giants have had a pretty unpredictable tournament thus far. They looked like they had all the bases covered when they started off with two successive victories, with Sophie Devine kicking things off in typical devastating fashion. But a slew of defeats between a couple of grilling victories meant that they were not exactly the most consistent team at the start of the tournament.
However, GG’s ability to be ice cold in key moments has been a huge advantage for them, one that sets them apart given the amount of close games they have been a part of, having emerged on the winning side every time.
GG will once again rely on their trans-Tasman quartet of Beth Mooney, Devine, Georgia Wareham, and skipper Ashleigh Gardner to lead the charge. All four of them have been very crucial to the Giants’ run to the knockouts; in order for the team to reach their first-ever WPL final, it will be crucial for them to be at the top of their game here as well.
For the Delhi Capitals, it has been a quick 180 in terms of fortunes with the change in venue. In Navi Mumbai, they won just one game, but the moment they stepped foot in Vadodara, their momentum switched, as they went on to win three out of four games in rather convincing fashion. That only goes to show why they are now the only team to have made the knockouts in all four WPL seasons.
Jemimah Rodrigues has acquitted herself nicely as skipper, growing into the role with every passing game. While she might have wanted to score a tad more with the bat, the fact that she has been marshalling her troops in the tournament deserves praise.
Apart from Rodrigues, the likes of Lizelle Lee, Marizanne Kapp, Nandani Sharma, and Shafali Verma have all been key contributors, with the likes of Sneh Rana and Niki Prasad adding new and fresh impetus to the side, as seen with their almost-heists against the Giants.
The biggest problem for DC, however, is their inability to beat the opponents they face tomorrow. On both occasions against the Giants, they brought the game to a situation where they were the favourites to win it. With nine and seven runs to win off the respective last overs, the Capitals found improbable ways to capitulate both times against Sophie Devine. This will definitely be on their minds and could potentially be a huge mental block if the match once again goes to a nail-biting finish.
The Giants have managed to beat the Capitals both times they have faced each other this season. They will, therefore, definitely fancy themselves to do the three-peat on Tuesday. But, as we always know and have seen from time to time, form and momentum go out of the window in knockout cricket.
However, the Giants still start as our favourites in this match given their superior head-to-head record as well as their ability to be calm and collected in pressure situations. That said, this contest has all the makings to be an all-timer, so we are in for a treat no matter what happens.
