FIFA WC26 | Group C: SCO vs MAR | 03:30 IST, 20 June, 2026
Scotland marked their first World Cup appearance in 28 years with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Haiti, but they were given a rather hard run for their victory against a hardworking and resilient Haitian side who did make life difficult for the Scots on occasion.
While the victory is a welcome boost given that both the upcoming fixtures for Scotland will be tough ones, you cannot help but wonder that they did leave a lot to be desired in their performance. Scotland were uninspiring for much of the contest, and if Haiti would have been even a slight bit clinical with their chances, it would have been an altogether different story.
A bigger concern for the Scots is that apart from John McGinn, their midfield seemed to be a little passive and let the game go by on instances. Napoli man Scott McTominay’s ineffective time out will definitely be a concern for head coach Steve Clarke and he will hope that they are on top of their game against the Moroccans.
Morocco, on the other hand, showed the world that their performance in the 2022 World Cup was no flash in the pan as they went band for band against Brazil and if anything would count themselves unfortunate that they only had a point to show for their performance.
Morocco cut through Brazil rather easily at times, baiting them into the press and creating overloads on either flanks. Noussair Mazraoui was one of Morocco’s best performers, while Bayern Munich-bound forward Ismael Saibari gave them the lead with a lovely dinked finish. However, it was 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi, playing in what was only his 4th game, who bossed the midfield and dominated his opposition counterparts with the composure of a veteran.
New coach Mohamed Ouahbi will be very pleased with the buy-in from the side given that he only took the reins of the national side from March, and he will hope that they go one step further and take away the 3 points on offer this time around.
Scott McTominay will have to bounce back from his opening game slump and bring back some of his Napoli spark if Scotland will have a chance to take the game to Morocco. And Morocco will once again rely on their midfield to give them the impetus as the game wears on.
We believe that Morocco have too much talent and skill to overmatch the Scots, thereby starting as favourites to win this contest between the two sides.
Score Predictions: Scotland 0- 2 Morocco
Venue: Boston Stadium, Foxborough.
