Didier Deschamps, manager of the France men’s senior national football team, said on Griezmann’s retirement:

Antoine was and will remain a monument of French football, one of the greatest players in its history.

Griezmann’s biggest prize at world stage came in the form of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as he played a pivotal role and was awarded the Man of the Match award in the final. He ended the tournament with four goals and assists each, scoring a crucial goal in France’s 4-2 win against Croatia in the final. He was also selected as the third-best player at the World Cup behind Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappé, bagging the prestigious Bronze Ball.

The Frenchman also won the UEFA Nations League in 2021 as France beat Spain 2-1 in the final. He played as a midfielder in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was the top assist provider as he helped his nation reach a second consecutive World Cup final, which they lost to Argentina on penalties.

Griezmann leaves behind an incredible legacy in French football, having been an instrumental part of their golden era at the global stage.
