British bank Barclays has penned a multi-year extension agreement to remain the title sponsor of the Women’s Super League (WSL) and the Women’s Championship.

The £45m deal sees the British bank double its investment in the top two divisions of women’s club football in England. It is the first major sponsorship deal for the WSL’s new takeover company, Women’s Professional League Limited (WPPL).

On the sponsorship deal, Nikki Doucet, CEO of the WPPL said:

Barclays has been a leading light when it comes to supporting women’s football and they become a founding partner for WPLL as we embark on a transformational journey to grow the game. This record multi-year investment demonstrates long-term commitment and is important because it provides positive endorsement and increased support for what we are trying to accomplish.

Speaking about continuing the bank’s association with the Women’s Super League and Championship, Tom Corbett, Group Head of Barclays, said:

I speak for all my colleagues when I say how proud we are to be continuing our sponsorship of football. This latest agreement solidifies our long-term commitment to supporting the game at every level and creating opportunities for everyone to benefit from it.

The WSL is the women’s football topflight in England which sees 12 clubs participate. The Women’s Championship is the second division that sees participation from 11 sides.

The Women’s Super League saw a change in ownership in 2023 as WPPL took over from the Football Association in 2023.
