October 7, 2021

German league to be a part of the NFT-based fantasy game.

The German Bundesliga has announced a partnership with fantasy platform Sorare which will see the Paris-based company become the official partner of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 till the 2022-23 season.

As part of the deal, Sorare will be making non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 players for its fantasy game in the form of digital player cards, which the players could use to create their teams. Sorare will also create NFT videos from Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, known as ‘Moments’, and these videos will give the fans a chance to own a part of the history of the league. These ‘Moments’ will also be a part of the fantasy football game.

Speaking about the deal, Robert Klein, CEO of DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, subsidiary of Bundesliga International, stated:

We are delighted to be partners with such a dynamic and exciting company. NFTs are a digital technology of the future that should not be underestimated – especially in the sport sector. I am therefore convinced that this collaboration will give rise to further impulses. At the same time, Sorare will benefit from the appeal of one of the most popular sport brands.

Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare, commented:

Germany is football as it’s meant to be, where fans engage with their favourite players and club each weekend. We’re thrilled to allow Bundesliga fans in Germany and globally to come together online and to feel ownership of the sports they love. We are very proud to partner with them to launch our first NFT Moments – we are building the future of fandom together.

Sorare had recently received a US$680m funding in the Series B funding round and already has partnerships with LaLiga and over 200 clubs.
