Top 10 Wingers in the 2024/25 Premier League season The role of the winger in football has undergone a significant transformation over the years. Traditionally, wingers were expected to stay wide, beat their markers with pace or skill, and deliver crosses into the box for strikers to convert. Their primary contribution came in the form of assists and stretching the opposition’s defense. However, in modern football, the responsibilities of wingers have expanded considerably. Today’s wingers are no longer confined to the flanks or limited to just creating chances. They are expected to be versatile players—capable of scoring goals, creating opportunities, and contributing defensively. Many modern wingers operate as inverted forwards, cutting inside and scoring goals, often matching or even surpassing traditional strikers in terms of goal output. The rankings below are based on following criteria: Performances, potential. and consistency Importance and relevance to his team Success or trophies won P.S. All stats mentioned below have been taken from Premierleague.com. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 Wingers from the 2024/25 PL season – 10. Kaoru Mitoma (Left-Winger, Brighton and Hove Albion) Japan International Kaoru Mitoma plays as a left-winger for the Seagulls. Known for his dribbling skills, excellent first touch and clinical finishing, Mitoma has proved to be a top-class winger for Brighton. He has performed consistently for the Seagulls in recent seasons and this season hasn’t been any different. Mitoma has scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 36 games this season. In addition, he has created 8 big chances this season, provided 24.72 passes per match and took 57 shots with 47% shooting accuracy. Mitoma is an important presence in the Brighton forward line as he influences the game from the left wing and has been vital to the Seagulls getting close to European places this season. 9. Jarrod Bowen (Right-Winger, West Ham United) Jarrod Bowen has probably been the only shining light in an otherwise abysmal season for the Hammers. The English right-winger has been one of the major reasons that West Ham escaped relegation this season. Bowen is a strong player who plays direct, has pace and agility and great decision-making skills in front of goal in addition to being a clinical finisher with an eye for goal. Bowen is another consistent performer who contributes with goals and assists for West Ham every season. Bowen has 13 goals and 10 assists in 34 games this season. He had 11 big chances created, provided 20.59 passes per match and took 87 shots with 43% shooting accuracy. Despite the team not doing well this season, the English winger has shown his top-class ability almost single-handedly taking the responsibility for saving the club from relegation and therefore, deserves to be named in this list. 8. Antoine Semenyo (Left-Winger, Bournemouth) Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has also made a mark this season. The Ghanaian forward has shown decent form this season and is another Cherries’ player attracting widespread interest from top clubs in the league. Semenyo possesses explosive pace with exceptional dribbling skills. He has great ball carrying ability and decent finishing skills as well. Semenyo has 11 goals and 5 assists in 37 games this season. He also created 11 big chances this season, provided 26.95 passes per match and took 125 shots with 33% shooting accuracy. The strong forward is a versatile player who can play anywhere in the forward line. It also seems like he can develop further and become a lethal forward in a bigger team with other quality players. It would certainly be difficult for the Cherries to keep hold of him this summer. 7. Bukayo Saka (RIght-Winger, Arsenal) Bukayo Saka hasn’t had a perfect season as he was out with a long-term injury this season but it would be a travesty if we didn’t name him in this list. Before his three-month long absence, Saka was showing great form but the unfortunate injury not only derailed his season but also made a massive impact on the Gunners trophy ambitions. Saka possesses pace, agility, superb dribbling skills, great intelligence and positional awareness. He also has exceptional finishing skills both from close-range and distance. Even with injury issues, his numbers have been admirable this season. Saka has scored 6 goals and provided 10 assists with 21 big chances created, provided 23.92 passes per match and took 67 shots with 34% shooting accuracy. While Arsenal handled his absence quite well, any club will miss the presence of a world-class winger like Saka as the Gunners did - ending the season trophyless. 6. Yoane Wissa (Left-winger, Brentford) Yoane Wissa plays as a left-winger or centre-forward for Brentford. Wissa is another player who has made a massive impact this season alongside Bryan Mbuemo on the right wing. Wissa is a dynamic player who can play as a winger, an attacking midfielder or as a centre-forward. Wissa possesses great pace, dribbling and finishing skills. He is adept at ball retention and link-up play as well. This season, Wissa had a remarkable showing as he scored 19 goals and provided 4 assists. He created three big chances, provided 16.09 passes per match and took 221 shots with 44% shooting accuracy. While Wissa isn’t much of a creator, he has provided goals to his team time and time again and it was due to his partnership with Bryan Mbuemo on the right wing that Brentford ended the season in 10th place. 5. Anthony Elanga (Right-winger, Nottingham Forest) Anthony Elanga has been one of Nottingham Forest’s most important players this season alongside Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood. The ex-Manchester United winger has been sensational this season putting Forest in with a chance for Champions League places until the end of the season. Elanga is another versatile player who has exceptional pace, dribbling skills and ball carrying ability. He is a direct player that likes to run behind defenders, finding space for himself and creating it for others. This season, he has scored 6 goals and provided 11 assists for his teammates. He created 9 big chances, provided 16.63 passes per match and took 44 shots with 55% shooting accuracy. Elanga has been a massive threat for the opposition defences this season and definitely one of the best wingers in the league this season. 4. Luis Díaz (Left-Winger, Liverpool) The Colombian International Luis Díaz has been a major contributor to Liverpool’s title win this season. While Mohamed Salah has been in a league of his own, Díaz has quietly made his own mark. Díaz possesses that South American flair, he likes to play direct, challenges opposition defenders in 1v1 as he has exceptional dribbling skills and works tirelessly for the team. This season, Díaz has made big contributions scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists in 36 appearances. He also created 8 big chances, provided 22.94 passes per match and took 71 shots with 42% shooting accuracy. Liverpool’s wingers were sensational this season as they provided more output than the two strikers in the team with Luis Díaz second only to Salah in the goal contributions this season. 3. Bryan Mbuemo (Right-winger, Brentford) The Brentford winger has yet again shown his top-class levels this season. The Bees’ right-winger has been in fantastic form for his side and therefore makes the Top 3 of this list. Mbuemo is another strong, direct winger with great strength, decent pace, dribbling skills and clinical finishing. He also creates chances for his forward line. He also has great game intelligence and spatial awareness, often finding space and getting into goal-scoring positions. Mbuemo has scored 20 goals and bagged 7 assists in 38 league games this season. In addition, he created 17 big chances for his team, provided 28.74 passes per match and took 85 shots with 41% shooting accuracy. With the season he has had, the Cameroonian forward has certainly grabbed eyeballs in the Premier League and abroad too. It would be difficult for Brentford to keep hold of him if a big club comes calling. 2. Jacob Murphy (Right-winger, Newcastle United) Jacob Murphy is one player that might have escaped attention due to Alexander Isak’s exploits in the Magpies lineup having grabbed all the limelight. However, Jacob Murphy’s contributions can’t be unseen. Murphy is another pacy winger who has good dribbling skills. He is a great ball carrier and known for creating chances for himself and his teammates. The winger has been in sensational form with 8 goals and 12 assists in 35 games this season. Murphy also had 16 big chances created, provided 24.11 passes per match and took 43 shots with 35% shooting accuracy. Jacob Murphy has been very vital to Newcastle securing CL qualification and also winning the League Cup this season. His critical contributions are the reason he is so high up the list. 1.Mohamed Salah (Right-winger, Liverpool) Liverpool’s Egyptian King has had a season to remember this year. Mohamed Salah has almost dragged Liverpool to the league title singlehandedly this year. Though he has been consistent over the past several years, he has just pulled off an all-timer season, breaking massive records on the way. Salah has lost his pace with age but he has more than made up for it with his creativity and game intelligence. He is able to impact the game from wide areas and also by cutting inside, taking on defenders, scoring and assisting. This season, Salah has ended up with 29 goals and 18 assists in 38 games this season. He also created 27 big chances, provided 30.39 passes per match and took 130 shots with 47% shooting accuracy. Salah has been undoubtedly the player of the season, not just the best winger in the league. At 32 years of age, the Egyptian forward is ageing like fine wine and getting even better and all the above reasons make him our No. 1 winger on the list.
