ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: Final Review

June 30, 2024

It was India going up against South Africa in the final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with both teams looking to continue their unbeaten tournament run all the way to pick up the trophy.

Here’s how the events unfolded.

Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Final: South Africa vs India

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got India off to a flying start. As the Indian captain fell, however, a domino effect ensues as Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada put the Men in Blue in a spot of bother at 34/3.

They say “cometh the hour, cometh the man”, and there was no better occasion for Virat Kohli to step up as the former Indian captain, along with Axar Patel, did a commendable recovery job to put up a crucial partnership. Kohli, along with Shivam Dube’s late fireworks, powered India to 176/7, putting up a more-than-respectable total.

Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh made sure South Africa didn’t get away to a big start, getting early breakthroughs to keep the Proteas on the backfoot. Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs put South Africa back on track, however, and Heinrich Klaasen all but took the game away from India with a whirlwind 50. Rohit Sharma then turned to Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered once again to bring India back into the game. Regular wickets from Bumrah and Hardik Pandya saw India win the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by 7 runs.

First innings: India 176/7 in 20 overs
Second innings: South Africa 169/8 in 20 overs
