Valve has announced that the Paris Major, scheduled to be held in Paris from May 8 to 21, 2023, will be the final Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Major. The announcement comes on the back of Valve having announced that the latest instalment in the Counter-Strike franchise, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), will be releasing in summer 2023. The CS2 beta testing phase began a few days ago.

The announcement from Valve means the second Major, which is held every year during Fall, will not be taking place as the game transitions into the CS2 era. The first Major in 2024 will be held in March, with CS2 being the featured game.

The CS:GO era has been one of the most dominant eras in Counter-Strike history, with Astralis’ Nicolai dev1ce Reedtz and Natus Vincere’s Oleksandr s1mple Kostyliev all set to end the CS:GO era as two of the most decorated and celebrated players. Danish team Astralis will end the CS:GO era as the most dominant team in CS:GO history, having won a record four Majors — three of them back-to-back.
