Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 11: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings | 19:30 IST, 5 April 2026
Royal Challengers Bengaluru kicked off their campaign on a high, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad at home in convincing fashion as they chased down 202 in just 15.4 overs with four wickets left.
It was a complete batting performance, with Virat Kohli scoring 69 runs off 38 balls and Devdutt Padikkal making 61 off 26, as the pair dominated up front and made the chase look comfortable. Rajat Patidar added the finishing touch with a quick 31 off 12 deliveries. The top order looks well settled with Kohli, Philip Salt, Patidar, and Padikkal, while Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd add strength further down.
In the bowling department, Kiwi pacer Jacob Duffy made an instant impression in his IPL debut, picking up 3 for 22, and could play a big role this season, especially against CSK’s top order that has struggled at times. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also kept things tight in the previous game, while RCB will also look to spinners Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya in the middle overs, as their contest against Shivam Dube could be worth keeping an eye on, as he prefers to attack spin and does not hold back.
Chennai Super Kings have not started well this season, losing by eight wickets to Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati and then going down again against Punjab Kings at home.
Their batting looked better in the last game as CSK posted 209, but the bowlers failed to defend it as Punjab chased it down without much trouble. They will need a stronger overall display, especially in the bowling department, as they get ready to face a confident RCB side at their home ground.
Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad are expected to provide a good start at the top. Samson was in excellent form during the recent T20 World Cup, but has not delivered in the first two games, but this surface could suit his attacking style. Gaikwad, who leads the side, will look to hold one end and then shift gears once he gets set.
Ayush Mhatre and Sarfaraz Khan add depth to the middle order. Both made useful contributions in the previous game, with Mhatre scoring 73 off 43 and Sarfaraz adding a quick 32 off 12 to lift the scoring rate. Shivam Dube, who made an unbeaten 45 off 27 in the last match, will look to take on the spinners during the middle overs.
The pace trio of Anshul Kamboj, Matt Henry, and Khaleel Ahmed have the ability but need to execute better on this kind of pitch. Henry looks the most reliable and could have a big say against Virat Kohli, Philip Salt, and Rajat Patidar. The Patidar and Henry contest is worth watching, as the batter averages only 23.52 against pace in the IPL. Noor Ahmad could also make an impact with his four overs of spin.
Looking at the venue, five matches were played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2025, where teams batting first had an average score of 169. That said, the last three IPL games at this venue have seen first innings totals cross 200, including the opening clash between RCB and SRH.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be full of confidence after their strong win in the opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The defending champions seem to have built another well-balanced squad this season and will be a tough side to beat, especially at home, where their powerful batting can take control against most teams.
Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, are in need of a win after a poor start to their campaign. However, getting it done in the next game is another conversation, as they have lost their last three matches against RCB. The focus will once again be on their top order, along with the bowlers, to turn things around.
For CSK to stay in the contest, their bowlers need early wickets in the powerplay, but that could be tough against RCB’s in-form batting lineup. So, the pressure will again be on the top three, along with Shivam Dube, to carry the scoring. Right now, RCB look in better touch and should have the edge in this contest.
