In what is being touted as arguably the game of the tournament in its early exchanges, a stumbling and stuttering Mumbai Indians will lock horns with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a star-studded Match Number 20 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) Season.

Here is the Preview and Prediction for the game

IPL 2026 | Match 20: Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 19:30, 12 April

Mumbai Indians have screeched to a halt after finally breaking their 12-year drought of losing the opening game of the season. That win over Kolkata in their opening game now seems a long time ago as two consecutive losses against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals have deflated all the positive vibes that were created after that win 2 Sundays ago.

In both the defeats, the batting has come a cropper following their sensational performance against KKR. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton have gone on to add just 27 runs between them in the next two games following their mammoth partnership in the KKR game. Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, and Suryakumar Yadav have yet to fire in the contest so far (SKY does have a half-century against his name, but it was at a strike-rate less than his lofty standards).

MI have not been able to stitch enough partnerships in the middle overs, and that has seemed to hurt them big time. For all the talent and power they possess in their ranks with regards to batting

Even the bowling attack, which was touted to be one of the best on paper, have been taken to the cleaners with absolute disdain. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Santner, and AM Ghazanfar, all have been carted for runs, with the ever-reliable Jasprit Bumrah also having a rare poor day against the Rajasthan Royals.

There are only shoots of positivity, and MI have to drastically improve on all fronts if they want to have a chance of gaining a positive result.

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, their winning run was brought to a shuddering halt thanks to the audacious assault of teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel’s stroke-filled 81 as they suffered their first loss of the season.

Despite the loss, their batting looks in fine fettle. Bar Phil Salt, who has just not been able to fire, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Tim David have all registered 50s in the tournament, with Patidar 5th in the race for the Orange Cap. The bowling attack also has skill and variety, and Josh Hazlewood’s long-awaited return from injury will only serve to strengthen the attack even further.

The loss against RR can be classified as an aberration, but they will have to be mindful of the fact that MI should not be taken lightly, and that means the defending champions will have to be on the top of their game.

The last time these two sides met in Mumbai, it was RCB who emerged victorious by 12 runs.

On paper, it looks to be a contest that is too close to call given that both these teams boast of some of the finest names in T20 Cricket. However, RCB look to be a much better side in terms of form, squad balance, and in quality as well. We believe Royal Challengers Bengaluru are favourites to win this match, but MI do tend to bring their A game when the chips are down. Expect a tantalizing battle between the two.
