Match 67 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season brings us a crucial encounter in the top-two race as a resurgent SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) side welcomes table-toppers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 67: SunRisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 19:30 IST, 22 May 2026

The SunRisers have bounced back in style from the drubbing they received at the hands of the Gujarat Titans by beating the Chennai Super Kings at their den to book a spot in the top four.

On a batting-friendly surface, the SRH bowlers chipped in with wickets at regular intervals and were able to restrict the hosts to a par score of 180 at the end of their 20 overs. Skipper Pat Cummins was once again the pick of the bowlers, finishing the game with figures of 3/28 in his four overs, while newcomer Sakib Hussain and the impressive Eshan Malinga kept the CSK batters in check, sharing three wickets between them as well as conceding just 60 in their combined eight overs.

As has been the case all season, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s inconsistent run continued as the opening pair added a combined 32 off 27 against the new ball. However, one of the catalysts to their play-off run, the duo comprising Ishan Kishan (70 off 47) and Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 26), once again laid the foundation for the lower order to come in and add the finishing touches.

Although sudden collapses in their batting department remain a concern going into the final stretch of the competition, SRH’s bowling has started to click of late, which bodes well given how batting-heavy recent pitches have been in this tournament.

As for their opponents, the Royal Challengers became the first side this season to book their place in the play-offs courtesy of a commanding victory over the Punjab Kings in their last game. Besides, already on 18 points, even a narrow defeat should be enough for them to secure a top-two finish given their very healthy net run rate.

Having lost two games away from home in the middle of the season, RCB have now won three on the bounce and keep getting better as the tournament heats up. Batters Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal have continued their good work from the start of the season, with the likes of Rajat Patidar and Tim David looking to accelerate through the middle overs.

Moreover, with Jacob Bethell’s continued struggles at the top, and Venkatesh Iyer scoring a match-winning 73 off 40 in the last game against the Kings, there’s food for thought for the management, who may consider bringing in Iyer at the top and strengthening the bowling attack by bringing Jacob Duffy in alongside Josh Hazlewood.

With the ball, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood have been the standout bowlers, with Rasikh Salam providing solid cover, RCB have lacked that quality fourth seamer option at times. Trying out Duffy before the play-offs will give them some much-needed clarity.

In terms of weather forecast and pitch report, we expect clear skies with zero rain in Hyderabad for this game. The wickets here at Uppal have been a mixed bag, with some standing out as absolute belters and others having a touch of stickiness and two-paced nature, assisting both spinners and seamers with variations. That said, the team batting first will need to assess the conditions quickly and set up a competitive score accordingly.

Looking ahead to this crucial fixture, both teams are coming into this contest with confidence-boosting victories in their previous respective fixtures, and with qualification already secured, both camps can treat this one as a free hit, encouraging both sets of players to play with more freedom and panache.

While RCB look like the team to beat at the moment, SRH are known for decimating any opposition on their day. Thus, it promises to be a cracker of a contest.

That said, if we are to put our money on someone, we’re backing RCB to win this match.
