Paris Olympics 2024 – Day 9 Recap

Day 9 of the 2024 Paris Olympics saw tennis legend Novak Djokovic (Serbia) complete a career Golden Slam by taking gold, beating Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) 7-6, 7-6 in the Tennis Singles Final.

Noah Lyles of the USA, meanwhile, became the fastest man on the planet as he won the Men’s 100m dash in a photo finish with Kishane Thompson of Jamaica by a negligible difference of 0.005s.

Boxing

Women’s 75kg: Lovlina Borgohain lost a close fight 1-4 against China’s Li Qian in the Quarter-finals.

Hockey

The India men’s hockey national team won an exhilarating Quarter-final against Great Britain. Despite being a man down, the game ended 1-1 in full-time before India won 4-2 in the penalty shootouts. They will now face Germany in the Semi-final.

Badminton

Men’s Singles: Lakshya Sen fought valiantly but lost to World #2 and current Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) 20-22, 14-21 in the Semi-final. He will play in the bronze medal match tomorrow.

Sailing

Men’s Dinghy: Vishnu Sarvanan had jumped nine positions up in Race 7, but a poor showing in the eighth race landed him at P18 with two races to go.

Women’s Dinghy: Nethra Kumanan dropped to P24 in total standings after inconsistent performances in Races 7 and 8, with two more to go.

Golf

Men’s Individual Strokeplay: Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar finished P40 and P45, respectively. Scottie Scheffler of the US won the gold medal with 19 under par.

Shooting

Men’s 25M Pistol Qualification Round: Vijayveer Sindhu (P9) and Anish Bhanwala (P13) failed to qualify for the finals despite shooting well in the first stage. They performed poorly in Stage 2 to miss out on the final six positions.

Women’s Skeet Qualification: Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon fell short of the score to make the top 6, failing to qualify for the Skeet Finals. Chauhan finished P13, while Dhillon finished P23.

Athletics

Women’s 3000m Steeplechase: Parul Chaudhary finished eighth in her heat in Round 1, as a result of which she couldn’t qualify for the finals, finishing three ranks lower.

Men’s Long Jump: Jeswin Aldrin disappointed with a jump of 7.61 metres in Group 2 Qualifications, missing out on the 8.15m mark required for qualifying to the Finals.
