Day 12 of the 2024 Paris Olympics saw Cuban grappler Mijaín López script history by winning his fifth straight gold medal at the Olympics in the 130kg Greco-Roman wrestling event. Playing his last Games, López became the first Olympian to achieve this feat.
Elsewhere, Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands won gold in women’s dinghy, thus becoming the most decorated Olympic sailor with four medals.

TABLE TENNIS
Women’s Team Event
The Indian team, comprising Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath, lost 1-3 to Germany’s Annett Kauffman, Yuan Wan, and Xiona Shan. Only Kamath managed to register a win in her singles match.
WRESTLING
Women’s 50kg Category
Vinesh Phogat had made it to the finals but was later disqualified after the weigh-in on the morning of the gold medal match, weighing 100 grams over the required weight.
Women’s 53kg Category
Antim Panghal lost her opening round 0-10 to Türkiye’s Zeynep Yetgil by technical superiority.

Women’s Individual Strokeplay
Indian golfers Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok began Round 1 of their Individual Strokeplay event. Dagar was placed P7, while Aditi Ashok was placed P13 after the end of day. French golfer Céline Boutier topped the leaderboard with -7 under par.
ATHLETICS
Mixed Marathon Race Walk
India’s Suraj Panwar and Priyanka Goswami failed to finish the mixed-team marathon due to multiple fouls.
Women’s 100m Hurdles
Jyothi Yarraji failed to qualify for the 100m hurdles semi-finals after she finished P7 in Heat 4 with a timing of 13.16 seconds. However, she will get another chance in the repechage round tomorrow.
Men’s High Jump
Sarvesh Kushare failed to jump over 2.20 metres in his three attempts and bowed out of the qualification round.
Women’s Javelin Throw
Asiad gold-medallist Annu Rani managed a subpar throw of 55.81 metres and ended P15 in her group, which proved insufficient to qualify for the finals.
Triple Jump Qualification
Triple jumpers Praveen Chitravel and Abdulla Aboobacker failed to qualify for the Men’s Triple Jump finals.
Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Finals
Avinash Sable finished P11 in the Men’s 3000m steeplechase finals.
WEIGHTLIFTING
Women’s 49kg Category
Mirabai Chanu was in the reckoning for a podium finish after a decent snatch attempt of 88 kg but failed to lift well in the clean and jerk to lose the bronze medal by one point.
