Two teams that have started their respective ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaigns with confidence-boosting wins take on each other, both in the mix for the ultimate prize.
The encounter between England and South Africa will be the only game for the day, and here are our match preview and predictions for it.
Women’s T20 WC 2024 Match 9: England vs South Africa | 19:30 IST, October 7
It wasn’t the best of starts for England in their opening game. They were in a spot of bother when they batted first against Bangladesh, whose spinners kept a check on the Brits and limited them to 118/7 in the first innings, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge the only England batter managing to cross the 25-run mark.
The English spinners answered back in style, though, with Linsey Smith, Charlie Dean, and Sophie Ecclestone not only getting regular wickets but also keeping the score in check, which saw England restrict Bangladesh to 97/7 and pick up a crucial and comfortable 21-run win.
South Africa, on the other hand, started their campaign in style against the West Indies with a dominating ten-wicket win. After a tight bowling attack from the Proteas—Nonkululeko Mlaba shining in particular with a four-wicket haul—also restricted Windies to a first-innings score of 118, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits saw home a comfortable chase, each scoring half-centuries to see South Africa win big.
With Match 9 game taking place once again in the slow and spin-friendly Sharjah ground, we should be expecting another low-scoring encounter. We give England the slight edge here because of their lethal and in-form spin bowling attack.
