Defending Champions Australia are probably the strongest and the most balanced side in Women’s Cricket. However, New Zealand can’t be taken lightly as they produced an exceptional performance against a strong Indian side.
Australia beat a hapless Sri Lankan team reducing them to a paltry score of 94/7 in their 20 overs with Megan Schutt the pick of the Aussie bowlers ending up with a figure of 3/12. In response Australia cantered to a win in 14.2 overs with opener Beth Mooney scoring an unbeaten 43 runs, an emphatic win for the Aussies in their title defense.
While New Zealand faced a strong Indian batting lineup in their opening encounter. Deciding to bat first, the White Ferns managed an above-par score of 160/4 runs in their 20 overs and bowled beautifully to defeat India by a big margin of 58 runs. Indian bowling was really poor but credit to Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine (57*) to take New Zealand to a great total. Their bowlers then came out and bowled out India for 102 runs to win their opening encounter comprehensively.
Though Australia have an edge over New Zealand head-to-head in T20 Internationals, the New Zealand batting has started to click with the dangerous Sophie Devine looking in fine form and hence it won’t be an easy game but Australia might just get hold of the bragging rights in this one!
