India Women’s Tour of England 2025 | 2nd ODI | 15:30 IST, July 19
The Indian bowling, which was stellar in the T20I series, stepped up once again in the opening ODI with Kranti Goud’s double strike early on leaving England reeling at 20/2. Amanjot Kaur continued to impress, keeping it tight while the spin trio of Deepti Sharma, Shree Charani and Sneh Rana once again choked England, giving nothing away. Chasing 260, Smriti Mandhana with the talented Pratika Rawal provided a brisk start and even though both got a good start and were unable to capitalise on it, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma’s 90 run fourth wicket partnership is what set up the win for the visitors with Sharma playing the perfect anchor innings to see the chase through.
Kaur will expect her bowlers to continue to put up strong performances as they have but she will expect her experienced batting lineup to convert their starts into big scores. All of the top four got going at the Rose Bowl but were unable to convert it to a big score, something the Indian camp will expect to rectify.
The hosts meanwhile, like India, had multiple batters get a good start but weren’t able to build on it. Along with that, Sciver-Brunt’s girls continued to struggle against the Indian spinners and were unable to up the tempo when needed. Amongst the positives with the bat, Sophia Dunkley had a good outing while Alice Davidson-Richards’ late fifty helped England get to 258 after being 97/4. Brunt will also expect her experienced opening pair of Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones to step up.
With the ball, there is plenty of experience and quality in the English bowling lineup and while they were tight and economical in the opening game, they were unable to provide the breakthroughs when needed. The leader of the pack, Kate Cross took a bit of tap and the veteran seamer will be looking to come back stronger.
Moving to Lord’s, the series is at a do-or-die state for the hosts and on a strip which will provide assistance for the bowlers, count on the hosts to bounce back and tie up the series.
