Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 56: Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans | 19:30 IST, May 6
Here we have two teams looking to move closer to qualifying for the playoffs taking on each other—the Hardik Pandya–led Mumbai Indians are looking to make it seven wins in a row as they go up against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans.
The hosts are coming into this encounter on the back of six straight wins after yet another slow start to the season. Their stunning mid-season turnaround sees them sitting pretty in the table in third position, with a playoff spot all but secured.
Rohit Sharma, their former captain, has found form of late after a poor start to the season. Along with Ryan Rickelton at the top of the MI batting order, he has been providing the team quick starts. Suryakumar Yadav has been their standout batter, though, averaging an incredible 67.85 and striking at 172.72. Will Jacks and Hardik Pandya have chipped in with runs whenever needed as well, while Naman Dhir has been a revelation as an explosive finisher.
Ever since Jasprit Bumrah’s return, MI’s bowling attack has been rejuvenated, with Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar causing trouble for the opposition batters with the new ball and Bumrah doing the damage in the middle and death overs. Pandya has been handy with the ball as well, as has been Will Jacks.
The Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, remain heavily dependent on their top three batters—Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and the experienced Jos Buttler. Luckily for GT, all three have been in red-hot form, helping the team reach scores of 200+ in four of their last six games.
In terms of bowling, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have been the chief wreckers with the new ball, while Rashid Khan has found his rhythm in recent games and added an extra dimension to the GT bowling unit. Additionally, Gill has plenty more options in Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore.
This is a battle between two well-oiled units. The Wankhede pitch has provided assistance for the spinners this season, with runs having been on offer aplenty in Mumbai for some time now. While the two teams are tightly matched, we give the hosts a slight advantage given their more experienced squad.
Fantasy XI: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
