IPL 2026 | Match 54: RCB vs MI | Preview and Predictions
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to put a stop to their indifferent recent form as they lock horns against a rejuvenated and sprightly-looking Mumbai Indians side who are in must-win territory themselves in a high-stakes Match Number 54 of the 2026 IPL season.
For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.
Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 54: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Mumbai Indians | 19:30 IST, May 10, 2026
The Royal Challengers’ seemingly smooth path to the Playoffs has been met with some obstacles with their sketchy run of form in recent games culminating in what is now a pretty sticky situation for them in terms of Playoff qualification.
The latest hindrance has come in the form of defeat to the hands of the bottom-placed side Lucknow Super Giants last night at the Ekana Stadium in a rain-curtailed match where they failed to chase down 209, falling short by 9 runs (based on the DLS Method), which means that they stay where they are in the points table, meaning the chasing pack behind them get another opportunity to close the gap between themselves and RCB.
The loss against LSG is their 4th of the season, the same number of matches that they lost in the entirety of last season. They seemed to be in the chase for a vast stretch of the game, but fell one shot away, and they will look at two places in particular where they lost the match: A slow powerplay where they lost both openers and scored just 45, and then a middle-overs collapse that seen them lose 3 wickets in the space of 29 runs just when it felt like they were beginning to take control of the run-chase. And despite the 95-run stand between Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Rajat Patidar for the 3rd wicket, the fact remains that it was Tim David’s 17-ball-40 that propelled them this close to the target, and even then the equation was a formidable 20 runs needed off the last over, from which they managed just 10.
The bowling yesterday seemed to be a little flat, although they did manage to pull things back a wee bit in the latter stages of the LSG batting innings. Rasikh Salam, Suyash Sharma, and even Josh Hazlewood in the early stages, going for plenty of runs. While Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya continue to be economical, they will need support from the rest of the pack as well.
For Mumbai Indians, the return of their talisman Rohit Sharma breathed new life into a campaign that was slowly fizzling into nothingness. Rohit returned in dazzling fashion as he and Ryan Rickelton shepherded Mumbai Indians to a comfortable victory against Lucknow Supergiants. The batting clicked, with Rohit and Ryan Rickelton putting another 100+ opening stand to set the side in firm control over proceedings.
However, MI will go into the contest against RCB a little light on personnel. If reports are to be believed, Hardik Pandya is still not fully fit from the back spasms that saw him miss the LSG game, while stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav will also miss the game following the birth of his daughter. This could probably mean that Rohit Sharma will lead the side for the first time since 2023.
Both sides enter this contest on opposing ends of the spectrum, but both these teams will need a victory, with RCB needing it to make the top 2, while MI needing the win to stay alive in the Playoffs race.
The last time these two sides met each other, RCB piled on a mammoth 240 at the Wankhede and emerged victorious by 18 runs despite a late rally by Sherfane Rutherford.
While the pressure on both sides to get the win is pretty palpable, we believe that RCB will be the favourites entering this game given that they still have the much better side and with MI missing a few key players, this could be a little too much for them to overcome.
