While players make it work on the pitch for their sides, the management team takes crucial decisions of appointing the right personnel to get the job done. Owners pour in the money to snap up the best of players in the IPL and play a role in deciding which players to go after based on calculated decisions. They help organise initiatives and other events in sync with their IPL teams. 
This article contains information about the owners of all ten IPL teams going into the tournament’s 2022 edition.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: United Spirits

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently owned by United Spirits Limited (USL), a subsidiary of Diageo. The company is a global leader in manufacturing beer, spirits and wine. USL currently produces and sells several cases of whisky, vodka, rum and many other alcoholic substances. The company is also currently manufacturing and selling products of Diageo within India, not to mention that it also imports several products to the country. USL sells more than a million cases a year and is highly successful. The ambition of its owners matches the kind of ambition the RCB possess.

The SunRisers Hyderabad are currently owned by the SUN Group, founded by Kalnithi Maran in 1992. Apart from the SRH, the group owns a stake in several fields, including radio stations, newspapers, magazines, and DTH services. Of late, the daughter of Kalnithi Maran, Kaviya Maran, has taken over the reins of the IPL franchise. By being present in the auctions and taking some key managerial decisions, she is committed to ensuring the SRH’s success in the IPL.

The owner of India Cements has more than enough experience within the cricketing world to make critical decisions for the CSK. Srinivasan has served as the BCCI President and ICC Chairman in the past and was also the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The CSK have already had repeated success under his ownership, including their latest triumph in the previous season of the IPL. He will be looking to continue the trend and lead the team to more glory as the years go by. 

Delhi Capitals: GMR Group and JSW Group

The Delhi Capitals are currently co-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group. The GMR Group is an Indian multinational company that has diversified into several areas, including infrastructure development, building airports and enterprises.

On the other hand, the JSW Group is yet another Indian multinational company founded by Sajjan Jindal. The company has more than enough experience in the sports field, carrying out ownership duties for the Delhi Capitals and managing one of the biggest clubs in Indian football, Bengaluru FC.

Punjab Kings: Mohit Burman, Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul

The Punjab Kings are currently co-owned by four people. 

The first of the lot is Mohit Burman, a businessman who is also the managing director of Elephant Capital PLC. 

The second co-owner on the list is Preity Zinta, an Indian Bollywood star who often shows her support through management decisions for the Kings at auctions and being physically present at matches. 

The third co-owner, Ness Wadia, is yet another businessman who is the managing director of the Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation and holds an indirect stake in Britannia Industries. 

The last of the co-owners, Karan Paul, is a businessman and the chairman of the Apeejay Surrendra Group, one of the largest family-owned groups in the country. 

Kolkata Knight Riders: Red Chillies Entertainment (55%) and Mehta Group (45%)

The famously well-known co-owners of the Kolkata Knight Riders are Red Chillies Entertainment and the Mehta Group. 

Red Chillies Entertainment, which owns a majority stake worth 55%, was established by actor Shah Rukh Khan in 2003 and has been providing its support to the KKR since the commencement of the IPL in 2008.

The Mehta Group forms the rest of the KKR ownership, with a total of 45% of the side. The company is an Indian conglomerate that invests in sugar, packaging, management, engineering, international trade, finance etc.

Reliance Industries owns the Mumbai Indians. It’s yet another Indian multinational company that has diversified into various spheres, including electronics, clothing, energy, petrochemicals and mass media. The company is currently owned by Mukesh Ambani, who has actively taken up the role since 2002. The Ambanis have devoted a considerable amount of time to the Mumbai Indians by delivering several IPL trophies as well as organising several community initiatives. 

The Ambanis often turn up at the auction table to actively involve themselves in purchasing the right talent for their squad.  

Rajasthan Royals: Manoj Badale, Lachlan Murdoch and RedBird Capital Partners

Rajasthan Royals: Manoj Badale, Lachlan Murdoch and RedBird Capital Partners

The first of the co-owners, and the majority stakeholder in the Rajasthan Royals, is Manoj Badale. Badale is a venture capitalist and an Indian businessman. He owns the venture capital firm Blenheim Chalcot. Lachlan Murdoch, another co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals, is a British businessman. Murdoch also is a part of the mass media industry and is the co-chairman of New Corp. He is also the chairman of Nova Entertainment and Fox Entertainment. RedBird Capital Partners, the third party co-owning the Rajasthan Royals, is a private investment firm based out of the USA.

One of the newcomers to the IPL, the Lucknow Supergiants are owned by the RPSG Group, which Sanjiv Goenka founded in 2011. The multinational company works in several spheres, including media and entertainment, power, IT services, educational institutions, sports, plantation, and retail. 

Gujarat Titans: CVC Capital Partners

Gujarat Titans: CVC Capital Partners

The second of the newcomers, the Gujarat Titans are owned by CVC Capital Partners, a private equity firm headquartered in Luxembourg City. The company was founded 41 years ago and primarily deals with venture capital, credit asset management and private equity.
