Shikhar Dhawan declared his retirement from both local and international cricket on August 24, 2024. He will still compete for the Punjab Kings team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), though.

Shikhar Dhawan has played for India in Test, One-Day, and Twenty20 international matches. One of India’s most prolific players over the past ten years, he has amassed 10,867 runs from 269 games, including 24 centuries and 44 fifties. He has also been among India’s top players in ICC competitions. In the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, he scored 363 runs, won Player of the Tournament, and helped India win the prized trophy. It was his best performance to date.

On his retirement Shikhar Dhawan, said:

“It’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket,” Dhawan said in a video message. “I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played for so long for India. I tell myself not to feel sad that you will not play for India anymore, but to feel happy that you played for your country.”

On his retirement, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), said:

“As Shikhar Dhawan retires from International and Domestic cricket, we wish him all the very best for the road ahead.”
