Top FPL Players During The 2024/25 Season

Rahul Saha Rahul Saha

With the 2024/25 Premier League season reaching its halfway point, it’s time we take a look at some of the top performing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets from the ongoing season.

Goalkeepers

Matz Sels | Nottingham Forest | Price: £4.8 | Points: 85

Nottingham Forest have been the surprise package of the 2024/25 Premier League season so far. However, much of that can also be attributed to the heroics of their 32-year-old goalkeeper, Matz Sels. The Belgian is currently leading the Golden Glove race with eight clean sheets, averaging 2.79 saves per 90. With 85 points from 18 appearances, he’s the highest scoring goalkeeper this season.

While Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactical setup has been impressive this season, it is Sels’ individual brilliance between the sticks that has bailed his team out of tricky situations on more than one occasion. Thus, for Forest to maintain their impressive run, they’ll need their #1 to be at his absolute best for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Jordan Pickford | Everton | Price: £5.0 | Points: 83

Although Sean Dyche and Everton find themselves in another relegation scrape this season, one player who has done everything in his power to keep them afloat the dreaded bottom three places is England #1 Jordan Pickford. Despite Everton sitting in 16th, with just three wins all season, the 30-year-old goalkeeper is in contention for the Golden Glove award this season.

With Sean Dyche’s team struggling for goals, Pickford’s heroics in goal means the Toffees have only lost seven games all season, while keeping seven clean sheets along the way. His excellent shot-stopping means he’s the only goalkeeper in the league to save two penalty kicks this season. With a £5.0 million price tag and 83 points so far this season, there’s very few goalkeepers who’ve been better than the 30-year-old this season.

David Raya | Arsenal | Price: £5.6 | Points: 75

Arsenal’s #1 and the 2023/24 season Golden Glove winner again finds himself in the running for major honours this season. Last season, David Raya ran away with the Golden Glove award with 16 clean sheets, three clear of second-placed Jordan Pickford. However, despite injuries and inconsistency from his backline throughout the first half of the season, the Spain international finds himself just one behind Sels in the race for the Golden Glove award.

While Arsenal share the best defensive record in the league alongside Liverpool, constant changes in the backline due to injuries mean the Spaniard had to make crucial saves in important junctures throughout the season. If the last two seasons are anything to go by, his team will only get better defensively as the season enters its business end, leaving him perfectly placed to claim his second Golden Glove award in a row.

Defenders

Ola Aina | Nottingham Forest | Price: £5.2 | Points: 89

Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina hasn’t really put a foot wrong this season. The 28-year-old Nigerian has so far been the highest scoring defender in the game with 89 points. While solid defensively, Aina looks to make timely late runs into the box, as evident from his goals against Brentford and West Ham United.

His sound tackling and good reading of the game has led to Forest keeping the most clean sheets this season. Moreover, the 28-year-old has also accumulated 15 Bonus Points this season – the most by any defender.

Alexander-Arnold | Liverpool | Price: £7.2 | Points: 83

Despite being the highest priced defender in the game, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to deliver year in, year out. With Liverpool leading the Premier League title race by six points over Arsenal, the 26-year-old England international has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players this season.

Although he has contributed with just one goal and four assists this season, which is largely down to a more conservative positioning in Arne Slot’s system, the Liverpool right-back has still created 12 big chances as well as managing 2.3 key passes per 90 due to his technical brilliance. As Real Madrid continue to monitor his situation and contract talks with Liverpool still on the table, TAA will look to keep his foot on the pedal in order to secure that big contract wherever it may be come the end of the season.

Gabriel | Arsenal | Price: £6.4 | Points: 81

With Arsenal threatening to score from set-pieces almost every Gameweek, Gabriel Maghalhães is arguably their biggest threat, whenever fit. Taking into account average points per game, only Trent Alexander-Arnold slightest better than him, but priced £0.8 million higher than the Brazilian.

Although the Gunners have struggled to keep their defenders fit this season, including Gabriel, in his 17 league league appearances, the 27-year-old has three goals and two assists against his name to go along with his six clean sheets. Moreover, with Arsenal playing most of their tougher away games during the first half of the season, one should expect the Brazilian to rack up more goals and clean sheets during the last 19 games of the season.

Lewis Hall | Newcastle United | Price: £4.8 | Points: 77

Following a wobbly start to the season, Newcastle United have slowly crept into the top-four conversation with four consecutive wins in December, and more importantly keeping four clean sheets on the bounce. As a result, the £4.8 million priced Lewis Hall has jumped out as an exciting proposition for most FPL managers.

The young 20-year-old left-back has already contributed with four assists this season to go with his seven clean sheets, while his defensive contributions like 1.8 tackles per 90 and 4.3 successful duels every game has resulted in him accumulating nine Bonus Points so far this season. Thus, looking at Newcastle United’s current form and their upcoming fixtures, Lewis Hall should be one of the first names in any FPL manager’s team.

Nikola Milenkovic | Nottingham Forest | Price: 4.7 | Points: 77

The fact that two out of the five defenders in this list are from Nottingham Forest is a testament to the great work being done by Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old Serbia international is a constant threat in the air as evident from his two goals and one assist, and had he not missed four other guilt edged chances, he would have been sitting alongside his teammate Ola Aina at the top. However, it is not only his aerial prowess in the final third that has come in handy, but the fact that has won an incredible 2.6 aerial duels per 90 has led to Forest keeping opposition attackers at bay in their own half.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | Price: 13.6 | Points: 202

There’s no one touching Mohamed Salah currently in the Premier League. The Liverpool talisman is operating at a different level and is solely responsible for Liverpool’s incredible performances during the first 19 Gameweeks of the 2024/25 season.

In just 18 league appearances, the 32-year-old forward has already scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists, which means he is involved in 67% of Liverpool’s goals. Although contract talks with the Merseyside club has stalled in recent months, if he continues to perform at this current rate, it’d be very foolish of the Liverpool management to let go of their star man.

Cole Palmer | Chelsea | Price: 11.4 | Points: 143

Ever since leaving the sky blue of Manchester City for the royal blue of Chelsea, the 22-year-old forward has been a revelation. Having scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists last season, Cole Palmer has carried his scintillating form into the 2024/25 season. With 12 goals and seven assists, the England international is averaging one G/A every 90 minutes.

Moreover, with Chelsea vying for a top-four finish under new manager Enzo Maresca, they’d need their star man to carry on his excellent run till the end of the 2024/25 season. If not for Salah’s brilliance, there’s very few who are operating at the same level as the 22-year-old.

Bryan Mbuemo | Brentford | Price: 7.7 | Points: 117

When Ivan Toney left the British shore for the Middle East, many wondered what the future would entail for Brentford. However, the rise of Bryan Mbuemo has meant the London-based club would do just fine as they solidify their place in England’s top-flight division.

With 12 goals and two assists in 19 league appearances, Mbuemo filled Ivan Toney’s boots in no time. Moreover, with his ability to drop deep and contribute both in the build-up as well as defensively, the 25-year-old Comeroonian has slowly made his claim as Brentford’s most prized asset. Priced at just £7.7 million, Mbuemo will be one of the most owned FPL assets till the end of the season.

Bukayo Saka | Arsenal | Price: 10.3 | Points: 107

With each passing year, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka keeps adding more to his game. Having enjoyed his most productive campaign last season with 16 goals and nine assists, the 23-year-old England international was on course to shatter that record having amassed five goals and 11 assists in just 16 PL appearances this season.

Although a hamstring surgery means the 23-year-old Hale End product would miss Premier League football for at least a couple of months, the fact that has already created 19 big chances as well as averaging 2.8 key passes per 90 means he should be on every FPL manager’s watchlist as their first choice replacement when he makes full recovery.

Luis Díaz | Liverpool | Price: 7.6 | Points: 95

Liverpool are currently the most in-form team in Europe and the fact that most of their players lead the FPL charts shouldn’t come as a surprise to many. Following Trent and Salah, the third Liverpool asset to make this list is Colombia international Luis Díaz. After struggling to make a an impact under Jürgen Klopp, the 27-year-old forward has seen his stock rise under new manager Arne Slot.

Having amassed eight goals and five assists in 37 league appearances in Klopp’s last season, Díaz has already contributed with eight goals and three assists in just 16 appearances this season. Moreover, with Slot’s system more resolute in transition, it has meant less tracking back and more direct runs for the Colombian.

Forwards

Alexander Isak | Newcastle United | Price: 9.2 | Points: 112

There isn’t a more in-form centre forward in the Premier League at the current moment than Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. In December alone, the Swedish centre-forward has scored eight goals and provided two assists, only Mohamed Salah has bettered his record.

The 25-year-old’s speed, technical ability, agility and aerial prowess means there’s very little opposition defenders can do when he’s in form. Having finished the 2023/24 season behind Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer in the Golden Boot race, with his current form and Newcastle United’s upward trajectory, there’s every chance he beats the likes of Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland to the finish line this season.

Matheus Cunha | Wolverhampton Wanderers | Price: 7.0 | Points: 111

Despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ struggles, Matheus Cunha has been their standout player this season. While the club sits just a point above the relegation zone, Cunha’s impressive display throughout the first half of the season has been key to any positive outcome they achieved. Moreover, wiith his 10 goals and four assists, the Brazilian has already attracted attention from some of the best clubs in Europe.

As the club sails ship under the leadership of new manager Vitor Pereira, the 25-year-old Brazilian forward will remain key to any hopes of survival this season.

Erling Haaland | Manchester City | Price: 14.8 | Points: 110

It has been a long and hard season for Erling Haaland and co. As Pep Guardiola and his players try to break their lacklustre run of form, evidently nothing seems to work. With just two wins in 14 games across all competitions, confidence is running low.

While the Norwegian international scored 13 goals in his first nine games of this season, in his last 10 PL appearances, the 24-year-old has only managed to score three goals and provide one assist. With hopes of retaining their Premier League title all but gone, it would require a miraculous turnaround for the Cityzens and goals, especially from their talisman, to keep their ship afloat.

Chris Wood | Nottingham Forest | Price: 6.7 | Points: 106

Having enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal last season with 14 goals, Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood is on course to shatter his previous best with 11 goals from 19 appearances this season. As the club tries to keep their European aspirations alive, a lot will be riding on the form of their 33-year-old Kiwi centre forward.

Moreover, with Forest keeping things tight in both ends of the pitch, having scored just 26 goals and shipping just 19 on the other end, Wood is expected to score a good chunk of Bonus Points whenever he’s on the pitch. With 23 Bonus Points, he’s only behind Salah and Cunha in this aspect. Thus, at £6.7 million, he’s a must have in every FPL manager’s team sheet.
