EA to shut down Apex Legends Mobile

Global video game firm Electronic Arts (EA) have announced that they will be shutting down their mobile game Apex Legends Mobile in May 2023. Apex Legends Mobile will close on May 1, 2023, 4pm PST but EA did not specify a date for Battlefield Mobile. although they stated that they will be shutting down development. EA also announced that the studio behind Battlefield Mobile, Industrial Toys, will also be shut down. Apex Legends Mobile had made its debut in 2022, bringing developer Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends to the smaller device for the audiences. The game had also won the Apple Game of the Year 2022 and the Google Play Game of the Year 2022 as well. With both Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile shutting down, studios such as Tencent and Lightspeed, who were working on Apex Legends Mobile will also be affected. EA also announced that as 'per the terms of the EA User Agreement', they would not be providing any refunds for real money purchases made by players. The Saudi Esports Federation (SEF) and Mastercard have announced a new strategic partnership with the Saudi National Bank (SNB). The partnership is aimed at growing Saudi Arabia's digital transformation and enhancing their gaming and esports infrastructure. SNB will work with SEF and Mastercard to work on new opportunities and build 'innovative financial products and offerings’ that create an added value and enhance the gamers' experience. The partnership builds on Mastercard's current deal with the SEF as they work towards promoting Saudi Arabia's gaming industry. SEF, Mastercard and SNB will also develop and unlock new experiences which will be powered by Web3 technology and will provide the gamers a chance to access exclusive benefits and unique experiences across the physical and digital world. Saud Abdulaziz Bajbair, Head of Retail Business Group at SNB, commented, "This partnership confirms the importance of the private sector’s role in supporting the overall development movement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030. This agreement is an important step in the dissemination of new digital technologies that will contribute to making the Kingdom a leading hub for gaming and e-sports.”

English football club Manchester United have signed Safia Middleton-Patel for the women's team, following the 18-year old signing her first professional contract with the club.
