IPL chairman Brijesh Patel recently confirmed that VIVO will be reinstated as the title sponsor of
the flagship annual T-20 tournament ahead of its 2021 edition.
The Indian Premier League and VIVO had suspended their partnership ahead of the 2020 season in
the aftermath of the military tensions between India and China because of the border dispute in
June last year. Indian online fantasy sports platform Dream11 stepped in to serve as the title
sponsor for the delayed 2020 season in a deal worth ?222 crore.
VIVO, on the other hand, payed ?440 crore each year for the title sponsorship since the 2018
season, having extended its contract with the league in June 2017 after paying ?100 crore a year
for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. It is yet to be known how the contract between VIVO and IPL will be
restructured, given it was supposed to run until the end of the 2022 season prior its suspension.
For the time being, Dream11 continues to be a part of IPL’s sponsorship portfolio, having been
listed as an Official Partner on their website.
